Jeremy (USA: OR) (2009/06/17): Baldacci is the master of the D.C. mystery. What I like most about him is the obvious amount of research he puts into every novel. Reading Baldacci is not just entertaining, but typically educational. In this case, you'll learn a few things you probably didn't know about lobbying, the FBI and the CIA.In fact, the novel's plot centers around a plan by a long-time CIA official to recover much of the power and glory that the agency had lost in the 90's. If you think being chased by the CIA would be scary, put yourself in Faith Lockhart's position. She's a D.C. lobbyist who suddenly finds herself the target of no-holds barred searches by both the FBI and the CIA. Her only hope for survival is a lean mean P.I. who saved her from an assassin's bullet. But can she trust him? She has no idea who he is or why he was even there to save her in the first place. The book is riveting for all 500 pages. Plenty of twists and surprises, and even a bit of a love story.
