Jo Miller (USA: CO) (2007/02/27): It was Ok. It was a bit exciting in parts, but McCaffrey fell back into fixing everyone up with a compatiable mate. I was actually surprised that she killed off a couple of the cute and fuzzy aliens (and it was one of the cute and fuzzy aliens that killed them) very violently. But lo and behold, she managed to bring them back to life. Then life went back to "Happy go lucky, every thing is great" style of characters. There is no human angst or anything like that. I get the impression that McCaffrey is a very old fashioned lady. Although, I have a hard time with some of the romance age differences. She always has one romance in her books where one of the couples that hook up, that have a HUGE age difference. Like old enough to be their parent. OK... perhaps she's trying to signify that age shouldn't matter (and I don't in most cases feel it matters). But it's also a sign of sexual abuse. So I wonder if the author was abused as a child??? Ok, enough of my meandering. Not a bad read, but this series will not top my best read of the year. Sue Eble (USA: IN) (2011/08/16): I really like this series! This is one that got away from my collection somehow. It follows the storyline of the Rowan's grandchildren and their escapades. My only "con" with this particular book is all the business on board the spaceships. Just a little more technical than I like. However if you don't read this one, you will find things you missed out on when you get to "The Tower and The Hive."
