Product Description
Legends have their history no less than men. Occasionally great men leave legends less impressive than themselves. Such is the case of Barbarossa--in legend, a murderous, red-bearded, 16th century Barbary pirate; in truth, two brothers, Aruj and Kheir-ed-Din, men of "constructive" violence. Both men were remarkable, but it was Kheir-ed-Din to whom real greatness belongs. Admiral to Suleiman, he bears comparison only to Sir Francis Drake. He founded the kingdom of Algiers and determined a pattern of life and trade in the Mediterranean that prevailed down to the early 19th century.
